10 Things on Social Media Which Can Cost your Recruiting Process

With the growing scrutiny of the social media profiles during the recruitment process, it has become a mandate for the aspiring student-athletes to maintain a clean picture online. They should be particularly aware of social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, or other emerging technologies.

Here are few tips on what should be done and not done on social media profiles:

1. Who you are representing yourself to be online, who you want the world to see you as? Be a responsible social media user.

2. Don’t allow a hater to bait you into a “social beef.” Ignore them and remember their actions are usually fueled by jealousy.

3. If you hesitate for a second to post it online, don’t. There is probably a good reason why you hesitated in the first instance.

4. Make sure your profile picture and other pictures are sober.

5. Avoid replying or ReTweeting Twitter users with vulgar names.

6. ReTweeting profanity is no different than using it in your own original Tweets. Don’t do it.

7. Avoid posting and tweeting during the class sessions. This create a negative picture that you are not serious about your studies.

8. Involve in meaningful conversations. Post updates and latest happenings about your sport.

9. Congratulate the fellow players on their achievements.

10. Act as a representative of your sport and always try to maintain a professional profile online.
